The skin around the eyes is much thinner than the skin on
the rest of your face. As such, it is extremely vulnerable. All
of the environmental assaults that affect facial skin affect
the eye area even more. Moreover, every emotional
response we have subjects the skin around the eyes to that
much more stress than the skin on the rest of your body.
These reactions also trigger biochemical changes that
weaken its collagen structure. This skin requires extra
protective care, but many of our skin care products and the
sunscreens we might use to shield the rest of our face are
generally unusable around the eyes. As a part of the aging
process, the skin on our bodies loses its elasticity. But
especially, any pulling or stretching of skin around the eye
can cause particular damage to the delicate tissues. An
accumulation of water in the body leads to bags under the
eyes, further stretching the delicate skin. To hide this, we
use make-up, but the effects of prolonged use of make-up
often lead to dryness and early wrinkles. No wonder the
eyes need the extra care that each of these products offers.
